Gallery for your BSG collection
Okay, I'm trying something new in order to generate some traffic. I enabled a Gallery, where you can post your collection, so people can go look. Thanks for the idea, Jack. I'm still looking to see what the image limit is, b/c we could fill that space up really quick.
Cheers,
Guy
Also, I'm thinking of compressing a few of the categories to simplify things.

Gallery update
Okay, let's try this. The Gallery that this forum uses is only 20meg worth of space. That = no good. So I had a "duhh" moment and made a Photobucket account just for us here on the Flightdeck.

Username is BSGTheFlightdeck and is open to all to load up their collections. I only ask that when you upload pics, create an album just for yourself and keep your pics in that folder. That way we can browse what each other have.
Cheers,
Guy

"polybius" is the password. Before you, or anyone else asks, he was a famous Greek historian in during the time of the Roman Republic.
I didn't think anyone would mind about the forum, since some of the forum threads were empty, or practically empty. I thought that compressing a few like categories would give the appearance of more posts, instead of many "no new posts" icons. Is there something in particular you'd like me to reset, Jack?
Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
I just thought you had a few good ideas over here that were worth considering for the main board.
Tell me which forums you collapsed or consolidated?

Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
I could also do with a quick tutorial on how to upload to Photobucket, and where you find the unwatermarked photos?

When you click on the link on the main page, you will have to sign in:
BSGTheFlightdeck
The password is "polybius"
At that point you will see my "album." What you want to do is click on the "Add New Album" link. Then create an Album with your name, or however you wish to be known (*insert joke*). Upload your pics to that album, and when you click "upload" it will prompt you to add any details if you wish. Those can be added later though. Just make sure they go to your album, not another or the main photobucket page.
Voila!
Oh, as for forums, I took the Propworx "what you got" thread and combined that with the others, and compressed the "ebay" with the "for sale" thread. Nothing was eliminated, just merged if possible. Also, the "BSG general discussion" merged with the BSG and Caprica thread. I sat back and looked at it after we chatted last night, and thought it was too overwhelming, so I tried to simplify things a bit. If there is something you, or anyone else, would like I'd be happy to change it. I may be taking care of the threads, but it's everyone's board. Everyone has a voice here.

And the unwatermarked photos? I know Rip has a pretty great collection of same.

OH! Sorry, missed that query. When the auctions were going on, you could click on the photo of an item on e-bay, which would open up a large window with its picture. I "Saved" a copy of that image for reference, and those never had the watermark that the after images had. I pretty much have that for all my stuff, and the other things I was watching during the auctions. Looking back on it, I wish I had saved many more than what I did....

Great idea! Ok, I think I did it. My little collection has its own album. Right now the pics in there are ones that I took. Do you want me to replace them with pics from the Auction Archive?
Hopefully more people will post !

Is the idea to use the photos in the propworx archive or use our own?

Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
Well, I gue.ss it can be both. I was in a rush and wanted to get a few images up for everyone to see how they look, and I put the Propworx ones on. I plan on putting my own very soon (actually going to meet Sean--Bobatrek--for dinner tonight in Orlando). I took up-to-date photos of my stuff the other night, but my resolution setting was still set for my astrophotography, so my pics were at ISO 3200!! Least to say, I need to go back and re-shoot them, probably Wednesday.stepwriterun wrote:Is the idea to use the photos in the propworx archive or use our own?

Ok, yeah, this gallery thing is pretty damn cool. Great idea Jack!!!! This is cool to just scroll through the items and see what people picked up. I have a school function and won't be home until later tonight, but hopefully can get some more uploaded.

Update to display methods
Okay, I'm taking some time this afternoon and updating my album, and was wondering if everyone could do the same, and get others to join us in this ongoing archive. I though of the following method for labeling the pictures:
[Propworx] Item, for anything bought that is from Propworx (that you have a COA for), whether directly or through re-sale.
[Replica] Item, for anything that is obviously a replica.
[Original] Item, for all those BSG (and maybe Caprica....) items that were purchased from other auction warehouses, which are nonetheless from the show, but for which you do not have the COA.
Tell me what you think, and spread the word!
Cheers,
Guy

Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
I've updated my album in the photoshop archive. I put the tags on each pic (as I stated above) so all is good now. Enjoy!

Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
Guy,
Nice collection. I've got the same Ionian nebula map. Below is a screen shot of that map being used in "Rapture" I can't find the hero version of this map in the archives. Assuming we have the same size map, the version we have is larger than the copy that appears in the sets of maps used to plot the nebula that are attributed to Gaeta.
http://archive.propworx.com/search?t=gaeta+map
I suppose what I'm saying is that I think that the one in Rapture is an entirely different map than the version used in "taking a break from all your worries", which is the one dubbed the hero map.
One other interesting tidbit -- the photo in the archive of my map ( http://archive.propworx.com/1006/721 ) is wrong, but it's correct on the COA.

Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
That's something I've been meaning to look into as well. These maps are both huge, and fit perfectly in a 24 X 48" poster frame. No way they are 23.5 X 35.5" so either the COA is wrong, or there is a different map altogether. How big is your map? EDIT: As I take another quick look, there is no way it's the 35" claimed in the description.
I found the same thing about the rescue map I have. Here's what I was looking at in the auction:
http://archive.propworx.com/1002/1214
However, compare that to what I have, and visually it's obviously different, but based on it:
The description says 17 X 23.5" and when I pulled a Wight, I found this screencap:
Wight helped to confirm that the map I have matches the one in these screencaps. There are even compass holes and circles, which match a shot where a compass is stuck into the table as Starbuck scans the charts. However, the Ionian Nebula seems to have the same size error. I'll have to go back and look at it, and I'll chew on this one tomorrow at work.
Cheers,
Guy

UPDATE: Here's a shot I took of the back of the map, showing the compass holes. An intriguing mystery.....

Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
Just measured my map -- it's 23 3/4 by 35 1/2, so the COA measurement is correct on mine.
Perhaps there were so many maps they just gave up on checking into whether the descriptions were wholly accurate. When I talked to Damian about getting the photo on my COA changed to show the map that I received he said that there were a lot of maps and that they were going by the production notes they were given for the COA descriptions since the maps were used in multiple episodes. I had pointed out to him that I didn't see my map at all in “Taking a Break From All Your Worries” but instead "Rapture".

Wow, and here mine looks identical to yours, except that I'm nearly positive it's larger in length. I'll check tonight and see. I can certainly see not issuing COA's for items that were split and such, but if the wrong item is shown on the COA, I think that would mandate a reprint. I wonder if there's a way to work up a scale for that screencap.....
Re: Gallery for your BSG collection
Hmm, where is this album thing? Is it a function on the TFD?
